AMI Defends Dietary Value of Chicken

The American Meat Institute (AMI) offered comments on the USDA and US Department of Health and Human Services' recent release of the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Technical Report.

AMI's Director of Scientific Affairs Dr. Betsy Booren notes that although chicken has been given a relatively small place on the food pyramid, its benefits are significant. She also comments that consuming meat and poultry "provides Americans a simple, direct, and balanced dietary source of all essential amino acids."

The comments also touch on the meat industry's continuing efforts to reduce overall levels of sodium in its products.
